I am Ryan Barr, a software engineering leader who has helped build something you have likely used.
I've been writing code since my pre-teens, whipping up websites, bash scripts, and game mods. In the early 2000s as a budding programmer, I fell in love with web standards and accessibility. Whether it be creating design concepts of the CSS Zen Garden, combing through RFCs on W3C, or working with other standards evangelists on the vision that was "Web 2.0", my time was consumed with development and design.
Building applications that impact large audiences is one of the things I love the most. You may be familiar with a few of the things I've proudly contributed to:
- The video player experience across the Web and Chromecast versions of Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, ABC, National Geographic, Marvel, Star Wars, and more.
- An AI-powered editor experience for Axios HQ, empowering communications teams to be more brief and effective.
- Localhost LAN Centers and the National Championship Series with Nerd Street where I was Head of Product & Development and League Commissioner.
- Bringing stock photos and memes to millions by way of the search and core platform experiences on Shutterstock.
Throughout my career, I've found a passion in bringing together cross-functional teams in engineering, product, and product design. There is no feeling more satisfying to me than building a full-stack application that scales, is usable and accessible, and delights users.
In my recent years, I have fallen in love with helping others grow and achieve their goals through technical leadership, engineering strategy, and effective collaboration.
